Cloud Atlas (2012)

Digital Matte Artist 

For the movie Cloud Atlas ILM created a futuristic Neo Seoul city environment where a high speed chase sequence takes place. Working as part of the digital matte painting team, my job was to take rough layouts of the city and develop fully immersive, highly detailed environments complete with dilapidated buildings, sunken structures and an ocean surface covered with junk boats and floating favelas.

Using inspiration and photographs from a recent shoot in Hong Kong I created textures and procedural grunge shaders for the buildings, and 3D model pieces to add detail to the structures and provide set dressing. I then lit and pre-comped the environment and added a 2.5D matte painting of futuristic towering skyscrapers in the background.
